It would be nice to see a compilation of what's out there.
I see Media Monkey and Helium as the closest choices.
It would be nice to buy the source from Yahoo who clearly don't seem to care and re-compile it for Win 7 but where's the money in it?
It would be extra special to see the Mozilla Foundation take an interest but I don't know anyone with an "in" there. And again, where's the $$

I have Media Monkey installed. It's okay but it's no MusicMatch. I never heard of Helium, but I will give it a look.
Wikipedia used to have a great article comparing all multi-media players but I can't find it anymore. It would be a great tool to look at if you're seeking a MusicMatch replacement like I am.

I have tried so many different apps and they all leave something to be desired. Including MMJ, But MMJ was the best without a doubt. I actually would not mind using windows media player wich is native 64 bit and with the right codecs can play anything but alass theres no way to display large album art and no supertagging and all the other things like extra notes, lyrics, history etc all of which you can tag onto mP3's and you can even do this WAV files! Thats the best part. You can listen to high def sound and have your tags and album art on WAV's Ive never seen another program that does this. If I was a code geek Id write another program myself but Im not so ....... There was one program I tried out for a while that was pretty decent If I can find it again I'll post it here.

Well if you're only wanting to use MMJB to edit and maintain your music (supertagging, music conversion, album art addition, .etc), then download MMJB v8.2 from OldApps.com. In order to add music to the library to edit, you'll have to go through the File-->Open commands on the menu. You'll have to add music to your playlist window, then you can drag the file(s) to the library. This is the only way I have found to add music to the MusicMatch library. The only downside is that you'll have to do it like this all the time to edit music and add files to your library. Also, the optical drives are not recognized so you can't rip from CDs (might have something to do with the MMCD.ini file) but if you're only looking to maintain your music collection, that might be an option.

Well I certainly Hope Jamie can breath new life into a new Music match jukebox. Its what all us Music nuts and audio-philes who are also computer nuts really need. In the mean time the rest of us need something to hold us over. As windows changes its getting harder and harder to get MMJ to even run on 32 bit windows 7. On 64 bit it is now impossible. The Yahoo trick no longer works.(at least for anyone who is not a code freak) I have heard of at least one instance of someone doing this but Im doubtfull. Im hoping our host will do a 64 bit clone Of MMJ 10 with some of the old features brought back like seperate libraries and being able to use early MMJ skins. (these would probably need to be ported) Also through out a lot of the commercial crap like online stores streaming and such crap as that.) If people want such features they should be like add on modules. It would also simplify writing new code.
Anyway we still need something to use in the mean time and Ive been doing quite a bit of frantic testing. Ive tried out about 7 different jukeboxes in the last few days. Ive narrowed it down to just one. JRivers media Jukebox makes an acceptable if imperfect replacement. It is not intuitive at all. It takes quite a bit of playing around before things start to fall into place. However once you get over the hump in the learning curve there is quite a bit to like about it. Full screen Album/CD art of your choice or creation. This works for all music forms including WAV. I use WAV's exclusively. Full tagging with custom fields and notes for all types WAV, MP3, OGG, Vorbis, FLAC, WAV pack and many more. Full range of out puts from standard mixer to ASIO, Direct Sound, WAV out and more. The jukebox is skinnable. Many different presentation modes for sorting and tagging porposes as well as general use. IT ionstalls easily on 32 bit and 64 bit systems and its free! By the way It sounds very good and I have my PC hooked up to a high end stereo. Try it.

Jamie - HELP US! There are so many of us that miss the features and ease of use with MM,especially the version 8 series. I love the ability to have auto DJ and printing jewel case covers! What is realistic time frame for your program Jamie?

:)I too miss mmjb - to me one of the best features was the auto dj that would create a "random" playlist based on filters that the user set up. Good luck on your project!!!

Yes, it's really a shame that there is no program which comes really close to the best mix of features, usability, speed and "friendliness". I'tunes (my wife uses it) is so annoying heavy. I have got version 8.2 to work on W7 but the find track function in 8 is not as good as later versions. But it is a workaround. And supertagging you now.............yeah that's what we missed somewhat longer already.

Can I add my small voice from downunder to the fray. Bring back MMJB 8 (or at the very least something that even comes close to it). I've searched and tried many many apps and NOTHING comes close to it. I especially loved the cataloguing and jewel case printing features. Not to mention being able to rip, burn, play, supertag and album art all in one fantastic player. Seems another case of a giant gobbling up a little guy with a superior product then destroying it. PS I'd love to now find something that works on both my PCs and my MAC (i'm not a fan of itunes either).

I started with Musicmatch, went the "lifetime" route, migrated to Yahoo, and after Yahoo abandoned it, kept it on my "XP" machine to manage my personal cd collection for listening through my main 800 watt sound system. Then my XP Dell died and I got a new hp pavilion Elite with (you guessed it!) 64 bit Windows 7. I am mortified to learn that my beloved Music Jukebox had passed away along with my Dell, and I would personally pay $50 to $60 for a 64bit Win 7 compatible version. Absent that, I, like many others am looking for something to use for the time being. As an aside, the Wiki comparison that was referenced above is at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_audio_player_software#cite_note-Paid_version_only-11 . In closing, I noticed that upon closing the registration page for this site that I was hit with one of those "message from webpage" fake " "your computer is infected" popup scams.

I'm another person who has a lifetime license for MMJ, and want to see it continue on.
I love it's ease of use, especially the supertagging.
I've looked at a couple of the other programs, but find them too "bulky" on the desktop, and in use.
Clean, simple. easy to use is what I'm after.

it's now Dec 2010 and surely someone can bring MMJB back to the masses. I still use Ver 10 complete with Nag screen on load up but really need the Super Tagging feature.
Is there an alternative ? anyone ?

I too have been forever searching for a MMJB replacement or someone who has a 'fixed/working' copy of MMJB. I've a Windows 7 64-Bit machine and I'm a little luckier than most in that my MMJB works great except for burning/ripping CD's. I get the infamous 'No CD/DVD Drives detected" message. I'd happily PAY for a completely working & compatible MMJB for my computer!! I miss the full functionality and had hopes that Jamie would be able to find a solution, but I've been watching these boards for quite some time now... doesn't look to be much progress.

So what does it take? Are we all prepared to chip in $10 each on good faith to see this happen? If Jamie sets up a paypal account for it, I'd do it. I love the Auto DJ and there is nothing on the market that has that. Anyone up for the challenge?
